AbstractThe goal of this project is to develop and demonstrate a data fusion system for all active and passive submarine acoustic sensors. The system will perform association of all data associated with a common contact. Associated data will be used to provide improved track estimates and classification performance uncluttered shallow water environments. In Phase I a conceptual design will be developed and its feasibility will be established. Data fusion operations which are currently performed by sonar operators will be identified. Those fusion functions which can be off-loaded will be identified and algorithm requirements will developed to automate them and present the results to the operator. A conceptual design for a man-machine interface will be developed. This MMI will utilize advanced COTS graphics software and hardware to provide in interactive display which presents all acoustic information in common visualization. A plan for demonstrating the data fusion operator associate and MMI during Phase II will be generated.
