AbstractThe objective of this work is to investigate and develop alternative wear-resistant coatings applied by a novel coating technique to improve performance of aircraft landing gear components (LGC). The selected Electro-magnetically enhanced Physical Vapor Deposition technique is developed to apply well-adhered coatings to the internal surfaces of cylindrically shaped components. This coating deposition process has demonstrated its capacity to apply fully dense coatings to flat surfaces, ODs and IDs of tubular substrates, has been bench-marked by the Tri-Service "Green" Gun Barrel SERDP initiative, and will be further developed to demonstrate its ability to produce uniform, well-adhered dry wear-resistant coatings on the inner surface of LGC. It will provide elevated resistance to impacts from chemical and mechanical wear as well as cycling loads.
