Abstract
Current infrared countermeasure (IRCM) systems are limited by the size and weight of their jamming transmitter. For current, as well as future, countermeasure systems, mid-infrared diode lasers need to be produced which can satisfy the power needs for IRCM while minimizing the system size and weight. While laboratory demonstrations have shown the technological feasibility using quantum cascade lasers, this project will explore manufacturing aspects in order to maximize yield and deliver long-lived, stable operation.
