Abstract
This SBIR is to develop a technical basis for augmenting the current ADS-33E-PRF to accommodate the needs of improving its applicability to shipboard rotorcraft and heavy lift helicopter flying qualities specifications. Significant accomplishments were achieved from the Phase I efforts which reviewed and investigated the enhancement areas of the current ADS-33 criteria for maritime and heavy lift rotorcraft handling qualities evaluation. In Phase II, ART will cooperate with Hoh Aeronautics on the development. As planned, Hoh will emphasize defining the HQ requirements for maritime rotorcraft, heavy lift, and VTOL UAV, while ART will focus on simulation development and criteria evaluation. The simulation development will be performed in FLIGHTLAB and will address three primary aspects. One is the high fidelity helicopter simulation model development using FLIGHTLAB blade element, slung load, ship dynamics and ship airwake modeling technology. The second focus will be the simulator enhancement and integration and pilot-in-the-loop simulation support for maritime and heavy lift ADS criteria evaluation. The third effort is to incorporate the new and enhanced HQ requirements into FLIGHTLAB's ADS-33 Toolbox in support of shipboard and heavy lift rotorcraft handling qualities analysis and UAV evaluation and control design.
