AbstractNew innovative concepts and formulations for spectral radiation in plumes and atomspheres are proposed for incorporation in an advanced unified comprehensive radiation simulation tool for comples flow phenomena at arbitrary altitude. The innovations enable unprecedented accuracy, efficiency, and generality for optical signature simulation to support multiple scientific and systems applications which include infrared-ultraviolet, line-band, spectra-imagery, gaseous-particulate, emmission-scattering, equilibrium, parametic-dynamic. Key enabling innovations include a fundamental generalization of classical band-model theory to account for the combined line-strength/spacing statistics at arbitrary resolution and a revised formulation of the integral equation of transport to account for highly nonuniform paths with coupled emission, absorption, scattering. The Phase II effort will implement new innovative concepts and formulation demonstrated in Phase I to unify and advance the legacy core technology of current atmosphere/plume radiation codes.
