Abstract
This program addresses the development of non-intrusive, broad band, high sensitivity microwave electrical field sensors. Non-intrusive high frequency electrical field probes of high sensitivity have both military applications in fields of high power microwave weapon (HPM) development, and wide commercial applications.. Based on the successful demonstration of a 33GHz electrical field sensor with high sensitivity of 0.1v/m in Phase-I program, in this phase-II program, we propose to further develop this new class of compact non-intrusive electrical-field sensor that can work up to 96GHz with high sensitivity of 0.1v/m. This new class of sensor is closely coupled with recent progress in electro-optic (EO) material and ultra-high frequency EO modulator researches and having the critical performance attributes that have been long sought for both military and commercial applications. The sensor utilizes high-speed phase matching 96GHz electro-optic modulator technology and incorporates efficient antennas with an integrated amplifier that is powered via an optical fiber. Agiltron’s on-going world-class new EO material development and Nano-speed switch and modulator technology promises to further extend the sensor bandwidth well above 96 GHz with sensitivity better than 0.1v/m. The proposed non-intrusive fiber-optic electrical-field sensor is also compact and cost effective which has not been attained before.
