AbstractThe information age has produced a flood of information to system operators and decision-makers in a multitude of application domains. Each piece of data that feeds a system can produce complex interactions with other data in the scenario. This projectwill examine the uncertainty associated with data that describes a battlefield awareness scenario and will determine techniques for visualizing these uncertainties with the goal of aiding in the decisions that a commander must make. This work will drawupon previous ALPHATECH work, including the outputs of tracking, automatic target recognition, and information fusion software algorithms, for the generation of data and uncertainty information. A scientific experimental procedure will be used to guide agroup of mock decision-makers through a series of experiments. Results of the experiments will be analyzed, with the goal of extracting those visualization techniques that work across the information domains tested. We will also extrapolate of the resultsof the experiments to non-military domains. Universal concepts for visualizing uncertainty will complete domain specific concepts, resulting in a demonstration of the most promising visualization techniques identified.
