AbstractEffective, low cost and compact sulfur removal technologies are required for military and commercial fuel cell applications. Altex Technologies Corporation (Altex) and Pennsylvania State University (PSU) have identified the Logistic Fuel Organic SulfurTrap (LFOST) system that can remove sulfur compounds from logistic fuels at ambient temperatures and pressures, without using hydrogen or any other chemical reactant. The feasibility of LFOST was demonstrated during the Phase I program. This was achievedby identifying and testing a regenerable adsorbent that removes the logistic fuel sulfur to the sub ppm level. An LFOST system was designed that continuously removes the sulfur from a 2 Kg/hr logistic fuel flow. During the proposed Phase II program, theLFOST system will be further refined, and a prototype will be fabricated, tested and demonstrated at a 2 kg/hr fuel flow that is compatible with the Air Expeditionary Force (AEF) fuel cell system.
