AbstractMilitary and commercial fuel cell applications require a fuel cleaning technology that is capable of removing the fuel sulfur and other contaminants prior to reforming. Altex and Pennsylvania State University (PSU) have teamed up to develop the innovativeVersatile Logistic Fuel Preprocessor (VLFPP) that converts the logistic fuels to a sulfur free and clean fuel. The feasibility of the VLFPP was demonstrated during Phase I by testing and analysis. Test data were used to design a 5 Kw VLFPP for APUapplications and a 500 Kw unit for marine applications capable of operating on NATO F76. During the proposed Phase II program, the VLFPP system will be further refined for marine applications and will be fabricated and tested at two scales. Thisdemonstration will provide the basis for fabricating and integrating a 500 Kw VLFPP system into the Naval Ship Service Fuel Cell systems.
