Abstract
AN INNOVATIVE LOW POWER DIGITAL COMMUNICATION (LPDC) SYSTEM IS PROPOSED WHICH WILL ENCODE RAW DATA FROM THE SELF POWEREDVEHICLE DETECTORS (SPVD) SENSORS AND SEND ENCODED DATA TO THE RECEIVED BASE STATION VIA THE LPDC DEVICES. THE PROPOSED ENCODING ALGORITHM WILL ALLOW THE LPDC TO OPERATE RELIABLY IN THE PRESENCE OF INTERFERENCE FROM OTHER COMMUNICATION USERS. PRELIMINARY ANALYSIS SHOWS THAT BY UTILIZING DIFFERENTIAL PHASE SHIFT KEYED (DPSK) CODING ALGORITHM, THE LPDC SYSTEM WILL ALLOW AT LEAST 30 SENSORS TO OPERATE ON A COMMON FREQUENCY WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT INTERFERENCE, AND ALSO INCREASE THE SPVD SYSTEM COMMUNICATION CHANNEL CAPACITY FROM20 TO 480. THE PHASE I STUDY WILL INCLUDE SYSTEM DESIGN OF LPDC UNIT, COMPUTERIZED SIMULATION OF THE PERFORMANCE OF THE CODING ALGORITHM AND INTERFERENCE ANALYSIS, SELECTION OF OFF-THE- SHELF COMPONENETS FOR THE MANUFACTURING OF THE WIRELESS UNITAND A FEASIBILITY BREADBOARD MODEL TO DEMONSTRATE COMMUNICATION PERFORMANCE IN THE PRESENCE OF AUDIO TONE INTERFERENCES. THE END PRODUCT OF THE PHASE I STUDY WILL BE A DETAILED AND TEST RESULT OF AN INNOVATIVE LOW POWER DIGITAL COMMUNICATION(LPDC) SYSTEM TO BE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SPVD UNIT. THIS LPDC SYSTEM WILL PROVIDE THE HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT WIHT AN INCREASED COMMUNICATION CHANNEL CAPACITY FOR PRESENT AND FUTURE EXPANSION.
