Abstract
An operational requirement is projected for an inexpensive, mobile, submarine acoustic countermeasure capability. A significant tactical advantage is gained by putting as much distance as possible between the submarine (launch platform) and the mobile countermeasure. An additional advantage is gained if the submarine has the ability to place the ADC between itself and the torpedo threat. Adding a propulsion capability with a guidance and control system to a conventional ADC ME2 MOD 1 device would achieve this capability. This proposal puts forth a conceptual design for the integration of a propulsion, guidance and control capability into a conventional ADC MK2 MOD 1 device. An inexpensive and producible design for a prototype mobile ADC MK2 MOD 1 countermeasure is proposed which will meet the propulsion requiremetn of 20 knots for 3 minutes. The propulsion system integration into the ADC fixed size package is make possible through innovative use of power gneration, materials, depth control and integrated circiutry component technologies. All of these technologies are within the stat of the art. The proposed conceptual design minimizes the design risk and meets operational and cost expectations by maximizing the use of existing ADC MK2 MOD 1 production hardware.
