Abstract
MODELING ANBD SIMULATIONS ARE USED EXTENSIVELY IN THE DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF "BULK" EXPLOSIVES DETECTION DEVICES. HOWEVER, OVERSIMPLIFICATION OF THE INPUT MODEL, NAMELY LUGGAGE AND EXPLOSIVE CONTENTS, CAN LEAD TO POOR DETECTOR DESIGNS. MANUAL PRODUCTION OF SUCH INPUT IS COSTLY AND ERROR PRONE. THIS EFFORT WILL AUTOMATE THE PRODUCTION OF SIMULATED LUGGAGE THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT OF A COMPUTER TOOL. THE INTERACTIVE TOOL WILL GENERATE LUGGAGE AND EXPLOSIVE MODELS BY USING THE BRL-CAD COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN PACKAGE, ANE WILL HAVE A LIBRARY OF LUGGAGE, CONTENTS, AND EXPLOSIVES TO CHOOSE FROM. THIS TOOL WILL FACILITATE EASY AND RAPID CONSTRUCTION OF INPUT MODELS FOR DIRECT USE BY EXISTING AND FUTURE SIMULATOR CODES. USING BRL-CAD ADDS MANY UNIQUE ADVANTAGES TO THIS APPROACH. DIRECT MODEL INTERROGATION IS POSSIBLE AND CAN BE USED FOR THE PRODUCTION OF SPECIAL IMAGERY. THIS IMAGERY CAN BE MADE TO MIMIC IMAGES PRODUCED BY CURRENT DETECTION DEVICES SUCH AS X-RAY IMAGES AND IMAGES PRODUCED THROUGH NON-CHARGED PARTICLE BOMBARDMENT. THE IMAGES COULD THEN BE UTILIZED TO DRIVE IMAGE PROCESSING AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ALGORITHM DEVELOPMENT. BRL-CAD COULD ALSO BE USED TO CREATE A PRCISION SIMULATOR CODE. THIS EFFORT CAN PLAY A KEY ROLE IN DEVELOPING A FULLY AUTOMATED EXPLOSIVES DETECTION SYSTEM.
