Abstract
Medical robotic applications require numerous actuation devices that must be both lightweight and efficient. In the case of mobile medical robotics, Space, Weight, and Power efficiency (SWaP) are the key performance drivers for most designs. The objective of this proposal is to design and prototype a scalable high performance motor and actuator based upon technology called Parallel Magnetic Circuit (PMC). PMC technology excels at all of those key performance parameters and is easily applied to medical robotic arms.
