Abstract
THE GOAL OF THIS R&D PROJECT IS TO DETERMINE IF SUPERIOR QUALITY NORI CAN BE RAISED ON A COMMERCIAL SCALE UTILIZING INNOVATIVE AQUACULTURE METHODS. THREE MAJOR EXPERIMENTS WILLTEST THE NEW TECHNIQUES DESIGNED FOR A COMMERCIAL FARM. THE OBJECTIVES ARE 1) DETERMINE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE GROWOUTTANK; 2) TEST THE NURSERY TANK AND DESIGN AND DEVELOP ASSOC IATED METHODOLOGIES; 3) DETERMINE THE ACTUAL WATER REQUIRE MENTS FOR THE NEW TANK DESIGNS. TWO NURSERY AND FOUR GROWOUTTANKS WILL BE CONSTRUCTED AND USED TO CONDUCT THE EXPERIMENTS. THE CHOSEN SITE WILL ALLOW FOR THE YEAR-ROUND CULTURE OF NORI, PROVIDING A RESEARCH AND COMMERCIAL ADVANTAGE THAT THAT CANNOT BE SURPASSED.
