Abstract
THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO REDUCE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR INITIAL ALIGNMENT ACCURACY WHEN BRINGING A PAIR OF CONNECTORS TOGETHER PRIOR TO MATING THEM. THIS WILL BE ACCOMPLISHED BY INVESTIGATING THE USE OF A TAPERED OR CONICAL DESIGN TO INCLUDE A PRELIMINARY LATCHING FEATURE TO CAPTURE AND TO CAUSE ALIGNMENT OF A PAIR OF COMPLEMENTARY CONNECTORS. THE INVESTIGATION WILL TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE NEED FOR RELIABILITY, HIGH CIRCUIT DENSITY, LOW CONTACT RESISTANCE, ETC.
