Abstract
The WIRL (wireless integrated routing link) concept was successfully demonstrated during the Phase I effort. WIRL provides a wireless backup communications link for high-availability environments; WIRL automatically detects primary, wired-network failures, switches affected data flows to the wireless, backup channel, and automatically reverts to primary-network operation upon service resumption. In Phase II the WIRL concept will be extended to provide enhanced support for LonTalk control networks and will be integrated with data acquisition units that are currently deployed, and scheduled for future deployment, on U.S. Navy warships. Phase I ofthis project has successfully positioned WIRL in the applied research stratum. To successfully migrate into prototype development, WIRL will be demonstrated in a well defined and understood ONR laboratory environment at Philadelphia Naval Business Centerusing the chilled water system test bench. Once successful, WIRL will then be transitioned through the next hurdle into the
