Abstract
This Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I project seeks to develop an advanced flexible self-powered robust high power density solid-state circuit breaker (SSCB) through the incorporation of emerging silicon carbide (SiC) device technology and the implementation of advanced thermal management schemes. APEI, Inc. will analyze different SiC device technology presently available and carry out the initial design of a full-scale SiC-based SSCB. Additionally, APEI, Inc. will demonstrate the advantages of the proposed approach through the hardware implementation of a scaled-down (700 V / 50 A) Phase I technology demonstration prototype. Phase II work will target the complete development and testing of a full-scale SiC-based SSCB.
