Abstract
This proposal responds to the need for a more capable velocity sensor for Naval Special Warfare undersea vehicles that will enable 3D bottom and water column tracking. Currently the Advanced Seal Deployment System utilizes a Doppler Sonar capable of operations at altitudes of up to approximately 300 meters over the sea bed for bottom track mode. There is also a stated need to decrease weight, volume and power consumption when compared to the current system. Having an accurate velocity sensor is key to navigating underwater. To address these concerns, ASSETT's proposal combines existing sonar designs in an innovative fashion using high frequency sonar for altitudes to 400 meters and low frequency sonar for altitudes beyond 1000 meters. All of this is packaged in a manner that takes advantage of modern technology to reduce weight and volume and a unique method of powering the low frequency portion of the sonar that limits power usage. ASSETT has assembled a strong team consisting of our employees who have over 50 combined years of sonar systems experience, a recognized consultant we have worked with for over 25 years and EDO, the premier provider of ceramic sensor technology and systems to the US Navy.
