Abstract
This project has two goals: (1) to develop and evaluate the feasibility of intelligent, computer-based self-management and household management applications that would improve the independent living capacity of persons with cognitive disabilities, and (2) to identify an agenda for full development of a deployable system in a Phase 2 project. Intelligent multimedia computer agents offer an untapped resource to augment the functional cognitive ability of individuals with disabilities in community living settings who lack skills for self-monitoring and decision-making and who cannot use text-based systems or other commercial personal management systems due to their cognitive complexity. Assistech Systems builds on previous work in the development of cognitively accessible life skills applications and rule-based expert systems for independent living to develop a limited features, self-management prototype application with activity monitoring and tracking tools with integrated behavioral recognition capability.
