Abstract
THE ASTRON PROPOSED UNDERGROUND COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM UTILIZES AN INNOVATIVEPHASE MODULATED RF TRANSMISSION WHOSE MODULATION RATE IS ADJUSTED TO PROVIDE DECREASED TRANSMISSION LOSSES THROUGH SOIL/ROCK ENVIRONMENT AS COMPARED TO CONVENTIONAL RF COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS. ADDITIONAL MAJOR ADVANTAGES ARE: A. DECREASE TRANSMISSION LOSSES THROUGH OTHER MEDIA (IF DESIRED); B. INCREASED DATA RATE ABOVE THE USUAL AM OR FM CAPABILITIES, AND C. SECURE COMMUNICATIONS.
